San Diego is the pkl athletics’ team stomping grounds. Our friendship and business inspiration all began by joining the warm SD pickleball community.
There are plenty of places to play in Southern California depending on your skillset and pickleball goals:
1. Bobby Riggs Racket & Paddle
Bobby Riggs has a rich history, and 22 new pickleball courts with lights - a pickler’s dream come true. Bobby Riggs is a high volume place for players to convene, so your best bet is renting out a court through their website or going to an open play and meeting new competition.
2. Mackenzie Creek Park
Mackenzie Creek Park is a journey for most San Diego residents, but it's normally worth the trek. Free courts coupled with lights and friendly players creates the perfect opportunity to up your pickleball game. There are two challenge courts for top players.
3. Barnes Tennis Center
Barnes is tennis geared, but has three pickleball courts in the back with a friendly group always ready to play. There are no lights above the courts, so Barnes is best for daytime use.
4. Poinsettia Park
Carlsbad is home to one of our favorite spots to play pickleball. With challenge courts, lights, and open play from 8am-10pm, what more could you want? Like any pickleball court, the wait time can become long during busy times.
5. Pacific Beach Recreation Center
The PB Rec Center has indoor courts available for the rare chilly days in southern california. Their gym schedule might not work if you have a 9-5, but still a great option.
Keep pickling, and find your sport!
